Default Headlight Woes

Hello everyone.

I have a 2000 Chevy Cavalier 2.2L. The right side headlight is dimmer than the left on high beam. When I grounded the wiring to the battery, the right light becomes brighter, but still is not as bright as the left while on high beam. I've also already checked all of the fuses, which were fine. All of the other lights are in good working condition.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what could be the cause and a possible fix for this?

Thanks.

Welcome to the forum. Swap the left and right bulbs and see if the problem goes with the bulb?

Thank you.

I tried that yesterday and it was still showing the same. I'm really at a loss as to what could be the problem. It really happened over night. The lights were perfectly fine and then one day, that one started showing incredibly dim.

Okay, I'm going to assume that your "right" is the passenger side. If not, it's a whole another story. Check to make sure the RT HDLP fuse isn't blown in the Instrument Panel fuse block and you have battery voltage at that junction. Also, pull the DRL relay and then tell us what you see in terms of low beam and high beam, left and right, etc.

Thanks for trying to help. I didn't have the time to solve it myself because I've got to drive to work in the dark tonight. So, I took it to a shop nearby. It was $80, but I was told that there was a grounding issue with the high beam wiring coming from the connector (is this what this is called?) under the battery tray. The guys there just spliced new wiring to the dim headlight from that connector and all of my lights are working. If anyone else is having problems with this, that may be your issue too.
