help with p0118
hey, i gotta 98 cavalier base 4dr (sucks now but in time...) but right now, the problem i got is a p0118 that causes my check engine to come on. its the engine coolant temp sensor. i replaced the sensor...and reset the code but the light's still on. i think it maybe a defective sensor...because what will happen is ill reset the code and then the gauge works for like 3-5 miles and then it jus goes back down to a dead cold (the car isn't overheating). i got the sensor from advanced...and think it may be defective. wat are ur thoughts? suggestions? experiences? anything?

Check the ECT connector for corrosion. AKA "green stuff".

no green stuff...

I talked to my friend who is a Master Tech. He said it typically means that the alternator is putting out too high of voltage.
|
that makes sense...maybe? the guy before has a cable running from the alternator to the positive end of the battery... so maybe if i take away that, it will fix it? cause i do kno that high input means its getting too much juice

Take a picture of it so I can see it. There should only be one wire unless it's a factory wire. There should be a wire from the alternator to the starter and then another from the starter to the battery. There should not be another wire, but take a pic just to be safe.

ok ill post it later tonight around 10 pm est

straight, but I won't see it until tomorrow morning.

Internet blockers won't let me view it. Try downloading it into your album on here and then post it. I will be able to see it then.
