1981 Chevy K30
Hey y'all, I am very new to older vehicles but recently purchased a 1981 K30. I haven't begun working on anything yet but I know it will need a lot of work. Any suggestions on where to start would be appreciated!

Welcome from Florida. Looks like it needs a good cleaning, exhaust and has wiring problems. First I would see if it runs. I fit runs well then I would go ahead with the other things that it needs.

That. I'd plug off all openings in and around the engine, steam clean that, go from there. Not to mention total fluid changeout. I had an 82, loved that truck. Yours has manual locking hubs, I converted mine to manual after the 365748354 time the automatic hubs wouldn't lock. You also have an edlebrock instead of a rochester carb. I wouldn't bother putting the CB radio back in it though.

Thanks for the advice! What kind of oil do you recommend me putting into it? I've heard 5w-30 is good but also 10w-30. Thanks!

You need to go with a multi vis as you stated, that depends on the weather (cold\heat). I have a 455 olds I run 10-40. The colder it is, the lower the first number i.e. 5, 10 will be. That means the oil is at it's lowest viscosity, and flows easier, hence for starting.

Hey guys! Another question, do you guys have any recommendations on battery types? I am looking to get a new battery but don't know much about CCA and what not. Thanks!
