Default Buying a 1st-gen Colorado - Thoughts?

Maybe I should've made an introduction topic, since this is the first time I've even touched this forum in over 3 years, but meh.

After a few days of checking the running statistics of compact/mid-size trucks, I've decided the Colorado is the best option, at least one of the best when it comes to gas mileage (the exact reason I'm staying away from the Silverado and other top-line pickups). But here's the thing: I can only get a first-gen Colorado - a second-gen is pretty much out of the question given my budget. That being said, is it even logical to get one from, say, 2007? My family has a Mazda CX-9 of the same model year, which gives us no huge problems...but I just want some opinions about this from people who have actually owned a first-gen Colorado before.
