Default Tire Chains

Im looking to get tire chains for my truck (17 colorado z71) but after reading the owners manual, it says if vehicle has 255/65/r17 do not use tire chains. They can damage the vehicle because there is not enough clearance. Has anyone used chains or cable chains (which I think is what I need) on theirs.

I'd go with the tire cables. They are lighter and easier to install, I know chains. On a semi-truck and trailer, you have to run 8 of them. Its dirty, messy and cold work
putting those things on.
