No sound from speakers

I have a 2005 Equinox and the other day I had my back hatch door re-painted. Now that I have it back, there is absolutely no sound coming out of my speakers. The radio and CD player are functioning fine but no sound. I know that they disconnected power to the vehicle in order to paint the rear hatch but they don't know what would cause this.

I spoke with a GM service rep and he said the speakers are probably unplugged. I don't know where the plug is first of all, and I don't know why they would have to unplug speakers to paint. I pulled the radio fuse and reinserted it but nothing changed. Has anybody got any other ideas? Thanks for your help.

there are no speakers in the hatch area....the rear speakers are in the rear doors not the hatch....

do you have premiums sound? if so maybe the rear speakers are somehow linked to the amp on the subwoofer which is located just inside the hatch area on the passenger side...and they unlplugged something there....

id say take it back to the paint shop, and demand they fix it, or else you will have the GM dealer send them a bill along with a letter from your lawyer....

Thanks for the response. Just to clarify, there is no sound coming out of ANY speaker in the entire vehicle. I took it back to the body shop and told me the only thing they did was disconnect the battery during the repaint. Understandably, they haven't got a clue what happened either. I'm just trying to understand what may have caused all speakers to stop working or determine where to start troubleshooting. Is there a main connection between the stereo system and all seven speakers? Like I said, the CD and radio operate fine but there's no sound in the vehicle. Thanks.

If you have the premium system (it appears you do since you mentioned 7 speakers), ALL of the speakers are powered by the external amplifier, not just the sub. No power to the amp = no sound at all. Check the fuse for this amp. It should be a 20A fuse in the underhood fuse block labeled "Prem Aud".

Equinox no sound coming out of speakers

Hello, I just tried what the last person mentioned about the fuse and no luck. I also have the same damn problem and hate that I have no radio. Any other leads would be appreciated. Thanks!

SusieQ62 June 25th, 2011 8:31 PM

I tried this with my car with the same problem and it didn't work. Any other suggestions? I appreciate your time!

Possessed speakers

I'm having a similar issue with my 05 Equinox. When I turn the radio on no music comes from the speakers, but I do occasionally get really loud "whump" noises and crackling sounds, even if the radio is turned off. I haven't had any work done on the car, so there's no obvious reason why this could be happening. It's really weird, and the random noises are irritating to say the least :( Anyone out there have any ideas? I would greatly appreciate any help you can provide!

CBeaupre,

I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing this issue. Have you consulted your local dealership to confirm the issue?

cargo speaker not working

I have a 2102 Equinox and the cargo speaker has no sound coming out of it. I have heard that there may be no speaker in there at all. How can I tell? I would like to take the cover off of it to investigate but I can't figure that out either. My husband probably will not be as gracefull as me so I would like to figure it out before he gets home :)

The amount of speakers in the vehicle is based on the trim level. The 6-speaker system is standard in the 1LS trim. It includes: 80-watt 6-speaker system, mid-range speakers in each door and tweeters in the A-pillars.

The Pioneer-premium 8-speaker system is available in the 1LT trim, included in an equipment group for the 2LT trim and standard on the 1LZ trim. It includes: Pioneer premium 250-watt 8-speaker system, mid-range speakers in each door, tweeters in A-pillars, a center channel speaker in upper IP and sub-woofer on the rear shelf.

If you would like, PM me the last 8-digits of your VIN, and I will check which is available in your vehicle.

I hope this information is helpful. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact me.

I have a 2000 Impala . my radio is working with stations coming on and cd player working . but no sound.... I found plenty of ideas on the web to repair this problem ... and the one that is most common , is the orange wires under the carpet corroded
. is this something GM will pay for or fix ...

Check the Balance and Fader settings on the radio.

1qazxsw2 August 4th, 2014 5:52 AM

I did check that but it is not the problem ,they may be disconnected or do they have a separate fuse ??

ruley73 August 4th, 2014 1:52 PM

Did you just buy this vehicle or have you had it a while and the other speakers just suddenly stopped working?

No sound from speakers either!

I also have a 2005 equinox whose speakers went. The radio and cd are working properly, but I get no sound. I did get bumped in the rear passenger side and it did happen shortly after that. I wonder if that is related. I have checked ail connections to the radio and they are fine. Don't know where to start from here. .

If you took a hit in the door jamb, the speaker wires may be shorted. This will cause the radio (or external amp if you have factory subwoofer) to go into protect mode (no sound output) until the short goes away.

If you have the factory subwoofer, then you should also check the fuse for the factory amplifier.

no sound from speakers

07 equinox I have tried everything suggested and still no sound from speakers. Changed my stock stereo for another stock stereo, changed amplifier for another stock amplifier, looked at all fuses, inside vehicle and under good. Still nothing. So frustrated. About ayear ago sound started sporadically cutting out, until it just got worse to apoint where there wad no sound at all? Any other ideas?

I'm thinking that your factory amp isn't receiving a turn-on signal.

The wire that provides the turn-on signal is the white wire located at pin 6 in the C1 factory radio plug and pin 8 in the C3 plug at the factory amplifier. Check for voltage on this wire at the amp. I believe you should get a reading of around 12 volts when the radio is turned on just like the remote lead on an aftermarket radio would provide, but I'm not 100% certain of this. If you get a reading near zero volts then obviously that's your problem, regardless of what the voltage should be. Please let me know what you find either way.

Did you also check the 25A fuse for the factory amp in the instrument panel fuse block?

I've posted links to wiring diagrams for the factory radio & amplfier below to help you troubleshoot the issue.

So I am wondering why so many other customers have asked the same question in the only response that GM Chevrolet can come back with his have you contacted your local dealer?. Answers would be nice.

No Volume on my Stereo

Instead of asking me if I contacted my local dealer, could you please answer why I do not have any volume coming from my stereo system in my 2005 Chevy Equinox? And could you reply with the answer of how I can fix this why should I have to pay a dealership when I paid for this vehicle? You figure it out.

Quite frankly, your Equinox is at least 13 years old, and long out of warranty. The dealership is not required to address this for free.

If you want help on here, we need more info. Have you checked any fuses or done any other troubleshooting? If your Equinox has the subwoofer in the cargo area, your factory amplifier is probably bad. Unfortunately, this is a somewhat common problem, and the OEM part has recently been discontinued. If your factory amplifier is bad, you would need to find one from a junk yard, and it must be from a 2005 Equinox. The 2006-2009 models use a different part. if you are skilled in car electronics or know someone that is, you could replace the factory amplifier with an aftermarket 5 channel amp.

Bruce Pittluck December 20th, 2018 12:21 PM

Check the Amp under the passenger side of the rear seat, it may have failed. Unfortunately, I don't know if anyway to test it, I only replaced the one I had on a suggestion form another tech. My Equinox did the same thing, the AMP fixed the issue. It was not cheap, even though I got a used one.

Is the crackling sound heard from all of the speakers? Subwoofer too?

Does it get louder when using the stereo like normal and turning up the volume?

Do you still hear your warning chimes and turn signal clicks from the speaker in the driver's door?
