2010 Chevy Equinox P0017 code

Hi there and thanks for considering my question. I have a 2010 Chevy Equinox 3L V6. In April 21, engine light came on and off; running ok for a bit then started having issues accelerating. When it came on again brought it in. Had Variable Valve Timing Solenoid replaced - left bank. Also replaced the Engine Camshaft Position Sensor. About 7-8 months later, engine light started coming on and off again, same symptoms. Brought it in for diagnosis. They diagnosed the Engine Camshaft Position Sensor and replaced, then said ooops wrong diagnosis. Now they are saying it's the timing chains. The code was P0017. I drove it home 2 miles to decide what to do. Upon driving had difficulty accelerating; am afraid I did damage to engine. Trying to decide what is next. 119k miles. Thanks for your help!
