2012 Music through USB trouble
Hoping someone here may have some insight to help out this lagging issue.
I purchased my 2012 Equinox new. At that time I had an iphone 4s which seemed to work just fine via USB. Very happy with my new method of handling music via the navigation interface.
Well, that only lasted a month or so. Songs started duplicating on the equinox navigation panel. At first each song was on the list twice. Then 3 duplicates. Then 5. I was pretty upset with this since I was able to stick my iphone in other cars and seemed to work just fine with their nav systems.
The Chey rep told me that iphone is proprietary software and not really supported by chevy (even though the owners manual touts that its apple compliant). The rep said it only works well with android devices.
I had an ipod and tried it in the car. Didn't even recognize the ipod.
I got an android note 3. At first all was nice. Then a week later the same song duplication started occurring. Recently I had to deal with 9 duplicate songs.
As of a few days ago, the navigation system only shows 'reading usb' and gets stuck there. no song playing.
Chevy took another $100 of mine (even though I have a 5 yr bumper to bumper warranty) and told me there is no problem with the navigation system.
Before I have a burning equinox effigy at the dealership, does anyone have any suggestions or guide me on a path of rectifying this?

A quick Google search seems to indicate that this is a common issue with the newer GM vehicles that use the same interface. There is a software update for the radio that seems to fix this problem. I would take your Equinox to a different dealership to see if they can apply the software/firmware update to your radio.

FW Update
Thanks for the info Ruley. Unfortunately my post only shows a part of what I have done so far in order to not write a thesis.
My last visit to the dealer was mostly issued around firmware or sw updates. They stated there is no updates available for me. I asked them if there had ever been an update available since 2012. They said no. According to them I am up to date.
I asked if they had the ability to reflash the firmware from scratch (out of desperation). Of course they couldn't.
According to chevy, I am current on sw updates and no problem with my system.
Oh, furthermore, I do not have Bluetooth music. Only Bluetooth audio for phone calls. I was told at purchase of the car there will be an update forthat. =\

A couple other things you could try:
1) Pulling all radio-related fuses for 15 minutes to reset it. This supposedly deletes the radio's file indexing cache that is created/modified when a USB device is connected to it. After doing that, erase all the music off the device, connect it to your radio and let it detect there is no music on it. After that, load all your music again and connect it to the USB port.
OR
2) Going to the radio's CONFIG menu and resetting to defaults.
Again, I don't have a 2012 Equinox so I'm just suggesting what I've read that other folks have tried.

Thanks Ruley. I have time this weekend to try your suggestions. If all else fails I'll take it to a different dealership. My fear is that I'll end up blowing another $100 at the dealership with the same response. It's like a bad day in the casinos..
