Default Only getting 18 MPG

I recently bought a 2011 Equinox LT2 4 Cylinder AWD. I was told they generally get 29 mpg on the highway.

95% of my driving is highway, but it seems like I am only getting 18 MPG. I have filled up every 300 miles. Thecomputer states that I am averaging 18.2 miles.

My question:

Is this normal for a new car? Does the engine need to be broken in, or is there something wrong here?

Mileage will improve as you get some miles on it. Are you using "eco" mode? Also, you can change the driver info display to give you instantaneous MPG. Mine seems to be very accurate and the MPG nose dives the faster you drive on the interstate. I'm averaging about 22 MPG which is mixed use, but my Nox only has 500 miles on it. I expect to average about 24 or 25 MPG most of the time.

My AWD is rated at 29 MPG. This AM, on cruise at 55 MPH, the Nox was reading 28 and 29 MPG on the instantaneous readout. At 65 MPH, the Nox was at about 24 MPG. So, every 2 MPH above 55 is lowering your fuel economy by 1 MPG. So by my calcs, you are probably averaging around 77 MPH on the highway.
