Exclamation Rear Left door won’t lock!

I have a 2011 equinox lt, the rear left door won’t open from the inside and won’t lock. I took apart the door and looked at the door latch mechanism. I was clicking the unlock/ lock buttons on the key while it was out and I noticed that it was barely moving. I swapped it out with another one (used). Can anyone help? Are they both bad or is it not getting enough power? Or a computer problem?

All the door locks are controlled by the BCM using the door lock relay in the engine bay fuse box. The rear doors share the lock/unlock control circuits from the BCM and relay, so if it’s only the left door that’s malfunctioning, it’s most likely a wiring issue isolated to that door.

One common point of failure on many vehicles is the point where the harness passes from the door to the body - the wires inside the boot are susceptible to breaking internally without breaking the insulation.

See connector pin out below. Start by using a test light jumpered between pin 3 and pin 8 - this is the door lock control circuit to ground - and see if it lights when the lock button on the driver door is pressed. If it’s dim or only flashes, see if holding the lock button allows it to stay on.

If not, try grounding the test light independent of the connector and try again.

If it’s still dimly lit or only flashes, you’ll need a meter capable of recording voltages to see what the voltage is actually peaking at.

You can also verify the integrity of the ground circuit (pin 8) by checking the resistance to ground. It should be less than 0.2 ohms. You should also wiggle the harness as you’re checking resistance - if it starts to vary, the pass through between the door and the body is the most likely place for damage.

Edit: Here’s the pinout I meant to include the first time.

Oh, I had such a problem. A locksmith helped me. And then I understood how important it is to have these skills.

The door locks on your 2008 are controlled by the BCM using Printed Circuit Board Relays (PCBR) in the fuse panel on the right side of the center console, behind the trim panel. It utilizes one PCBR for the driver door unlock only, one for unlocking the remaining doors, and one for locking all doors.

There’s a number of known problems with the wiring on these vehicles - inspecting for loose or corroded connections at the BCM and fuse block are the first steps.

As for the key fob, it should lock all doors on the first press of the button. It should unlock only the driver door on the first press of the button, then unlock all remaining doors on the second press. If that’s not happening, it could be as simple as needing to replace the battery in the fob; or it could be a programming issue if the fobs have been replaced.

I’d recommend making a graph or chart to “map” the response of each door lock when pressing a switch or fob. That could help point towards a common problem.

The battery in the fob has been replaced and is the original fob. When locking or unlocking of the doors using the fob or the switch on the drivers door, results vary each time. Rarely does it operate as it should. Am going to check wires in drivers side door when I get a chance. Also when when shifting from or into Park the doors do not lock or unlock as it used to. I realize the Nox is 14 yrs. old and has been a great vehicle so I can't complain but it would be more convenient to have this working properly if possible. Any help will be appreciated.

It was not a good decision to replace the current lock with an older one that was used. You need a new lock with a new mechanism to work. I don't know if you'll be able to do it independently. Only a locksmith will be able to help you the best. I'm a locksmith, too, I became one thanks to https://www.howtobecomealocksmith.org/, and now I'm good at it. But until now, I could not imagine how I could change the lock on the car door. So if you want a qualitative result, ask for the help of a specialist.
