I am considering the Nationwide SmartRide device (versus the SmartRide app) and would appreciate any information.
1. I have found posts raising concerns with these kinds of devices causing ECU problems with their 'routine' requests for data even when the car is turned off. These kinds of problems would be a red flag for me.
2. I am concerned about the dark current drain of these devices when the car is turned off. No one wants a dead battery. Does anyone have an estimate of the nominal dark current in a 2016 Equinox LT?
There are a collection of concerns with the SmartRide app:
1. always on location services draining phone battery,
2. awkward UI to assign 'drive' to proper driver (assuming 2 registered drivers in the car at the same time),
3. App quality and stability.
Nothing is without 'cost' but a potential 10-40% discount may be worth the 'cost'. Thanks in advance for any help.
