Default Stereo/Radio Problems

The radio gets no reception just static outside the city. It the city the reception is very poor and fades in and out. The CD player and AUX work great. Is this a radio or an antenna problem? Need help!

Sounds like an antenna issue to me. What year is your Equinox?

Do you have a separate Sirius or XM radio also installed?

As previously said the antenna may be a problem. Are you able to check to see if the antenna is firmly seated in the back of the radio?

I don't know how to get to the back of the radio. Also when I unscrew the antenna from the top of the Equinox there is no change or loss of reception. Would this mean than the screw-on antenna is the problem?

Are you having a problem with AM, FM or both?

They changes the dash console layout in 2007 but on mine the front fascia can be removed which will give you access to the screws that attach the radio to the dashboard. Start removing down by your window buttons. Once off remove the radio screws and slide the radio out so you can access the antenna connector. Remove the connector completely and then slide it back in. Then check your radio reception before reinstalling the radio.

If you are uncomfortable disassembling the dash, or if you do and your reception does not improve, my suggestion would be to take your car to a car audio business....like Best Buy and have them diagnose it. They can check it out for you and temporarily hook up a new antenna to see if that makes a difference
