1999 2500 van 4x4 conversion
Hello i have a 1999 chevy 2500 express van with a 4.3 engine. I am planing on converting it into a 4x4 using a front and rear end out of a 1980 3/4 ton chevy truck. What i wanted to know is can i modify the mauel tranmission that is in the van now to fit the older style transfer case out of the 1980 truck that i have. The transfer case is a alumminum type. If not will the older style tranmission out of the 1980 bolt onto the 4.3 engine.any help would be great.

4x4 van conversion
Good luck with that. I've been trying for two weeks to gain some info on an express van conversion to 4x4. I have a 96 conversion that I want to make 4x4. I've found no info or help on the internet. In talking to the local GM dealer, heres what I've found out so far... Because of the ECM I have to find a donor Suburban or truck that has matching gear ratios. Use the rear axle and perferably the front due to the wheel sensers. Trade out the ECM. One guy told me I had to trade out the whole wiring harness. What I'd like to do is use an older tranny and transfer so that I have a passenger side pumpkin (to clear the exsisting fuel tank) then use a straight axle frontend from a older Chev. They tell me no unless I get rid of all my computer set up to and older style carburation style. Which it turn is illegal due to DEQ an any future selling of my van.
Anybody out there with any truth not just guessing?
