1998 express 1500 conversion questions
Hey all, this is my first post here. For 6 months, Ive been driving a used Express 1500 Mark VIII, with the handicapped conversion. It only has 38000 miles!!
I have two issues with the van:
1st) The transmission is moody. I runs great and shifts smoothly 95% of the time. The other 5% it bucks when shifting, obviously the hardest is from 1st to 2nd gear. It seems to start once I brake to a full stop. It feels like the momentum of braking causes the gears to get mis-aligned or something. It can occasionally fix itself if I play around with the gas pedal. I have been meaning to change the transmission fluid, but havent done it yet. Can it possibly be old tranny oil causing this? The car sat around for 2 years before I purchased it. Or, is this a common problem with this transmission?
2nd) The back bench, which folds flat wont recline back anymore. I found the problem. One of the "cables" that leads into the "spinning device" dis-mounted. Can I open this up, and re-attach the cable, or did it snap? If it did snap, is there still enough slack to re-attach it, or do I need to purchase a new cable?
any help you can offer is greatly appreciated.
