Computer upgrade to improve mpg?
I'm a fairly new owner of a used 2006 Express G3500 12-passenger van. I'm not surprised that we only get 16mpg out of this beast on the highway, but I'm thinking about things I can do to improve on that number. I've been looking at the Bullydog 40410 GT Gas Gauge Tuner. If the claims of 15-30% fuel economy is true, the $400 price tag will pay for itself the first 10-15K miles, however, I've read mixed reviews (some claiming the difference is in the driver habits and some say 4+mpg was achieved just by plugging it in). Any of you Express owners ever try something like this to improve your mileage, if so, what make and model computer did you try and what were your results?
Thanks!
Thanks!

plus one!
I am asking the same question... Perhaps we need to inquire in the deeper channels of the the "non van" sections.
Maybe something like this: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/JET-20310/

I also would be interested in any info on this.
There is the usual rubbish...keep your tires inflated, vehicle tuned, etc.
I am soon getting my hands on a 2009 G3500.....6.0L does not scare me as it is just slightly larger than the old trusted 350 V-8, but with gas prices the way they are, I surely do not want to put any more cash in the pockets of the oil company asshats than I have to.

I am a new Express (3500 LT) owner, but will be transferring my Bullydog GT to this new van from my Econoline E350 6.4l
I do like the unit for several reasons,
1st it gives you alot of information to simply maximize your own driving habits to improve MPG with out any tuning.
2nd the 2 tune levels (89 and 91 octane) seemed to add 2-5mpg but this could be from the "driving coach" feature either way, my MPG did improve.
3rd the 91 octane tuning added alot to my ability to tow, ability to get up to speed on highways especially. This is of course the inverse to better gas milage (more power) but it is your choice more power or more MPG
4th I really like the ability to check DTC error codes (check engine) as well as the many different parameters you can monitor on the road from MAF to tranny temp, to battery volt, to .. the list goes on. the device can be set to monitor 4 things at 1 time and be changed very easily.
And support from the company was great, just call during business hours and they will find you an answer.
Hope that helps!
Had my unit for 2 years now.

I think if I were getting 16 mpg with my 3500, I wouldn't touch a thing.
That being said, I highly recommend a Black Bear Performance tune over anything.
BTW, I am getting 12 with my 3500 and am actually pretty happy about that. I do plan on getting a BBP though soon.
