The ELM/Torque thread

I totally understand like I said, it'll probably work fine, but with all my cheerleading, and finding out about the clones I had to buy a scanner with a genuine ELM chip, and bite the $65 bullet, and prove there actually is a real v2.2 out there. It's really strange though that I have found only one company that utilizes the genuine ELM Canada chips in their OBD2 scanners, and virtually thousands of companies that are selling the clones.

This is what I am thinking .. correct me if I am wrong.
but the only way to prove there is only 1 real 2.2 version as you say...
you would have to buy the 65.00 one and then you would have to buy
one like my second one... and see if there is any differences between the
two.
now I do have a 2,2 version ( at least that what it says )... but in order to
prove there are differences you would have to buy both and compare.

The TotalDiagnostics scanner that you bought if I remember right claimed v2.2 or v2.1, but showed v1.5 on the ID app. You have a v2.2 somewhere?

Now back to my point... you will have to buy the 65.00 plus one like mine ( that shows 2.2 )
and compare notes to see if you get the same telemetry for both ELM327's that will be the only way you
know if its truly works the same.

Please show me a scanner that you own that has v2.2. The screenshot (showing v2.2) above is of my $65 device.

Absolutely no biggie about the wrong picture. In the post #355 you talk about your new scanner and then you tested it on the ID app and took a picture of it while it was on your phone, it shows v1.5 correct? And probably a side-by-side comparison would be the only way to see if they're the same. But the problem is with the clones there's no legitimacy you can't trust what's in one compared to another one, pirate companies cheapening them up as far as they can to save a buck. Whereas the genuine ELM Canada chip is what it is, it will always test out the same. I don't think your 2006 vehicle would show as many changes compared to like a 2016 vehicle, considering ELM started making them in 2005.
