The problem with conversion van stuff is a lot of it is not made to be taken apart again. I messed with a few of the early 90s ones and while they look nice there's a lot of glued on things using cheap materials where it can't be seen.

It's unlikely the wrecker will let you work on yours in the yard. Maybe you could slide your top over and strap it down to take it home.

The top won't change fuel economy much.
