how to split 5.0 vortec intake manifold
Working on my 97 G1500 VAN vortec 5.0 mouse
I've got my intake off due to dexicrap eating up the gasket (again).
I purchased the (good felpro fix-it) gasket set that included the upper manifold half seals, figuring its off the engine, I'm into this and nows as good a time as any to do this.
I'm now thinkin this was a mistake to loosen the top half...hope i'm wrong!
Having problems pulling the plastic top half off the aluminum bottom after removing all the perimeter bolts from the plastic top.
anybody have a pic or exploded view of what i will encounter inside with the injector lines and such. REALLY I just need know how to finish disassembling this manifold. Whats still holding this together??
thanks
steve

I did the autozone thing early this morning and wasnt able to find specific directions or exploded views of this assembly.
I think I know what to do, but am a bit leary, due to not wanting to breaking this plastic piece.
when I look into the hole opening that the throttle body sat on, I can see a bolt head going back into the plastic top. My assumption is that holds (secures) a bracket against the inside top of the plastic part of the manifold and keeps the top from coming off.
just dont want to crank on that bolt and find out I just fractured the plastic half of the intake.
I'll try the autozone webpage again.
thks

Ok, I got it off. Me polock...
I didnt realize that the center oval electrical connector plug (for triggering the injectors) stays attached to the lower manifold. So as I pulled the top half to seperate from the lower, I pushed down on the connector and wouldntcha know it, the two halves seperated.
Again went to autozone and still no luck...however the same polock was looking at autozone.

Oh ya, the bolt head that I referred to in the previous post that went back into the plastic. That appears to be molded into the plastic top AND there's 3 of them. What "them" are, be thread reinforcement points for thread inserts that hold the throttle body onto the plastic top. jeez
I hope I didnt make too many heads hurt trying to figure out my personal malfunction!

Ok-give us a update once your done.I understand how hard it is to take pictures during a repair, but a repair log with pictures would be helpful to members doing this kind of repair after you.
