There's these wires in the rear passenger cubby space of my 98 GMC Safari conversion van. And I wanna know what they are for.

 

From the Colouring and the Gauge, I would assume they are Trailer Wire. Why it is there, I do not know. I could be wrong, but from my experience on my 16 year newer GM Truck, that is not Factory Wiring, but I could be wrong.

 

And there are too many wires for a trailer harness. Safari vans aren't known as trailer vehicles (not that they can't, but they're not going to carry the weight like an Express),so if it had a harness, it is most likely going to be the standard 4 wire. It's not big enough to tow the heavier trailers that would have a 7 wire harness. On the other hand I do see the colors of a 4 wire harness. I'd be curious as to what that label says.

the tag says "disconnect battery before removing tape from wires" so its meant to be wired to something..
This is also a conversion van​​​ Chariot/regent package. If that helps at all

The colors almost match the standard 7 wire trailer harness. That and you seem to have an extra one. Do you have a multimeter, and know how to use it?

 

I do have a multi meter but I'm kind of an an ametuer with it, lol.

 

If this is some version of a 7 wire trailer harness, the red(looks kinda orange in your pic, third one from the left) should be unswitched(direct to the battery, not switched by the key) 12v. Green should be the right turn signal, and yellow the left. If these are correct, there's your answer.

 

It is most likely a conversion company harness, and will be next to impossible to find that information online or from them, due to age. I would follow the wires and see where they go.
