No brake lights.....but working hazzard, turn and running lights!

I'm not sure what year your van is but I purchased a brand new '99 K2500. Had like 1000 miles on it and I could not get the truck out of park. I looked at the floor and seen a black plastic part. Looked at it closer and discovered that the factory forgot to install the spring loaded clip that holds the switch to the brake pedal and I kinda smashed it when it slid off the pedal. It contains three contracts. One releases the shifter, one turns off the cruise, and one turns on the brake lights. So if the switch is the same style, it is possible that once set of contacts are bad but not probable.
I guess I start on one end or the other. Remove your tail lights and make sure you have 12VDC on the socket as someone presses the pedal. Follow the wires back through the connectors under the truck back to the switch.
Good luck man.

Older cars used to have just a 2 wire brake switch. Now the switches have like 6 wires or more. Its possible that it could be faulty on the brake light part but ok for the other wires. If the cruise goes through the BCM but the brake light part goes direct to the lights, there still could be a fault there. If you are going to throw parts at it....I would include a brake switch, or at least test yours....
You may find a wiring diagram online for one....

I spoke to soon!
I tried the brake switch connection and it did not have any power on any of the 6 contacts.
I went back to the mechanic when the new turn signal didn't seem to work. The mechanic checked the contacts and
he didn't get any power either.
We then checked the fuses under the hood, and then the brake fuse by the left (driver side) door.
I have checked that fuse several times, but didn't check it after the new switch was installed.
Apparently, when a new turn signal switch is installed, it can blow the fuse !!!!!
Installed a new fuse and the brake lights work !!!!!
