Default oil pressure sensor/gauge problem

I recently bought a 2003 express 2500. The oil pressure guage stayed at full.

With engine running 80psi
With key on, but engine off, 80psi
With sensor unplugged guage reads 0psi and check guage liight on.

I guessed it was the sensor and replacing it fixed the problem and it showed normal operation.

2 weeks later same issue came back. Swapped out the sensor again thinking it was faulty and again a new sensor fixed problem and its working now for the time being.

Being skeptical by nature, i question the first sensor just went bad on its own.

Anyone run into this problem before?

Thank you.

The stepper motors in the cluster for those years went bad, some took longer than others. When they are reset they will work for a short while. i used to disconnect the battery and the speedometer would work correctly for a while then it would be wrong again shortly thereafter. I replaced all 6 stepper motors so I would only have to do the job once. They are not expensive and if you can solder, it is an easy job.

Ok, I reread your post, might be I didn't read into it as I should. Did you replace the screen under the sensor? I have done one, but did not replace the screen under the sensor, didn't have any issues. If you are having to replace the sensor this frequently, my suggestion is to use an OEM sensor.

There was no screen on the original. I replaced with oem Delco which doesn't have screen either, that failed after 2 weeks. The one I just put in is Napa and did come with screen which I didn't use. I read the screen causes the opposite problem when it gets clogged... low pressure and throws a code.

Since you bought it used, did you change the oil, and if so, I'd recommend a few frequentley.
