Default Power steering filter

I know this needs to go in a return line, does it matter if it’s between the external reservoir and the pump or should it go between the hydroboost and the external reservoir?

Dont need a filter. Just suck most of the old stuff out and refill.

I’m installing a brand new pump, brand new hoses & cooler, and brand new hydroboost. The only old part remaining is the gearbox. I don’t see why a filter would be a bad thing, less contamination in the system over time is a benefit.

The bulk of the fluid is going to be circulating through the steering side of the system, so the return line from the steering is where the filter should be.

The return line from the hydro boost is there only if the pressure relief valve in the hydro boost is opened (typically only in emergency stop situations but also opens if excessive pedal force is applied for more than a few seconds). Fluid doesn’t return from the hydro boost on a regular basis.
