That most definitely is NOT normal. I've never heard of brakes wearing out after only 12,500 miles. Do you drive stop and go all day in a place like Manhattan? Do you come to screeching halts from high speed? I own a 2004 Chevy Express with 76,000 miles on the odometer, and I am still on the ORIGINAL brakes, which are in good condition. The secret to my success: I have a very light foot on the brake pedal and try to coast towards red lights. If I see a red light 150 yards ahead, I take my foot off of the accelerator immediately. This irritates people behind me who are in a hurry to get to the red light.
