Rear Tire carrier

Rear Tire carrier
My old G-series Van had a rear mounted Tire-carrier that attached to the rear door hinges. Is there anything similar available for the Express series vans? I would like to utilize the area between the rear frame rails for storage (take a look, without the spare there it would be huge).

I do have the stock spare tire carrier from my Jeep TJ (Wrangler) that i could use, but it bolts directly to the door exterior. Should i use a rubber pad between the exterior steel and the metal tire carrier? Also what would be a good backing for inside the door to spread the stress across metal so it doesn't bulge?

Fender washers or something large. You will have to paint the inside of the holes you drill, and as for the rubber, I don't know. It might cause some vibration that might wear at the paint......maybe. I would paint your jeep one, and let the paint cure for at least a couple weeks so it does not glue itself to the van.....

I love it. Took me 6 months to find it ( back in 2010) But worth the wait. I was in Washington at the time, where it really shines up on the snowy trails. Now I'm back in so cal. Still fun to take it out on beaches and trails :-)
