Default Transmission cable adjustment?

OK, I've been playing around trying to get my reverse lights to stay on. There is play in the shifter. I popped off the white cover that sits on the knuckle in my steering column. It spins but I see no adjusted movement. I also took a pic at the transmission. A sleeve spins there but again no adjustment noticed...does ANYONE know if this can be tightened up? To me it seems to be shortened a hair in order to take up the slack to keep the line tighter and keep the reverse lights on. Thanks for any help here!
