Default 1949 Chevy 6400

I stuck this in the forum marked "Other". Maybe this is a better place to ask.

I just bought a 49 6400. I was told that the OEM engine has been replaced with a 55 235 in line 6. The serial # on the plate near the distributor has been worn off, at least its unreadable. How can I tell what engine is in this truck?
