1994 gmc 5.7 1st and 4th gear gone

1994 gmc 5.7 1st and 4th gear gone
I have a 1994 GMC 2500 with a 5.7 L in it. It is a four-wheel-drive that a couple days ago was driving down the road and Parked it and then got back in it and first and fourth gear we're gone just like that. I have tried replacing the speed sensor and changing fluids and checking fuses I am at a loss and have no idea what it could be. I was told by A mechanic that it is not likely that the transmission is bad seeing as how third and fourth gear are on the same shaft, but saying that he believes I have wiring issues. Anyone have any advice saying otherwise?
