1996 L29 Vortec 454 7.4l Engine swap
Ok, here's the deal.
I have a 1989 Winnebago RV has a GEN 5 454 7.4l that spun a bearing in #2 cylinder, dune deal. I picked up a 1996 L29 454 7.4l Vortec engine and am planning on swapping the motor out. I need help finding out a conversion kit from EFI to carburetor as well would like info on the cam that is in the motor, is it strong enough to handle the load? What cam to buy to increase power but not looking to go over the top and replace heads or change out too much. Im looking at the Performer intake manifold, 600-750 carburetor, HEI distributor and 6-9 psi. in-line fuel pump. I don't want to install the engine without knowing if the cam will be sufficient. All help on the swap would be useful, intake manifold part numbers, proper psi carburetor, HEI distributor to install and cam spec to make the motor function properly but not go over the top with monster power or anything. Or just set the thing on fire and call it good.
Please help. I've seen all kinds of L29 swaps and threads but none with real clear info on doing this for my RV, most are to make monsters on the street.
Thanks Bagel
