1997 Chevy 1500 running issue PO300 code
1997 chevy 2wd new 5.7L has new chevy create motor with about 20000 miles on it now automatic transmission... Started running rough and has a lil backfire in the exhaust checked spark plugs and 2 and 4 smelt like raw fuel the rest were normal checked Cat while truck was running and it was glowing now this may be from the unburnt fuel... when new motor was installed new distributor coil and just about everything else was replaced except for the fuel injector spider that was updated at the 100000mile mark...
Okay Iv'e got spark in all 8cyl but while I was checking this I noticed my coolant level has dropped... New question does anyone know when the intake gasket leaks is it possible to leak into cyl 2&4 ?

Raw fuel? You mentioned several things, with what you post, I think 2, and 4 not firing is the PO300 issue, did you swap plug wires, or what's the condition of them?

They like in the front passenger corner where cylinder 2 and 4 is. They usually bubble up and out. Very rarely have I seen them run down into the intake valve on cyl 2 but it has happened. If your still running the spider injectors and not the updated multi port that can also be and issue. The spider system were horrible about leaking. Pull your distributor cap and check for oxidation on the electrode tips. Those distributors don't have a seal and are notorious for holding moisture. Be sure to check all coolant hoses for leaks.

Hello and Thanks to all
Okay I found the source of the leak and it's been eliminated... Also switched spark plug wires and 2 and 4 are still cold going to try a new cap the cap that is on it only has 20000 miles and had very little corrosion on terminals if this doesn't fix it with new cap I'm thinking #2 and 4 injectors are hung open... Any advice is greatly appreciated

Did you pull the plugs and 2 & 4? If so, what did they look like. Those spider injectors are notorious for hanging open when they go bad. Use acdelco cap, rotor, wires, plugs. I've had nothing but trouble on the vortecs running aftermarket parts for the ignition system.

Yes I had pulled the plugs they didn't look bad but smelt like unburnt fuel... the Spider was updated on or around the 100000 mile mark... When I purchased the new create motor from Jegs I bought a new complete distributor with wires and plugs... after switching wires around and the 2 an 4 cyl are still not firing I'm thinking it might be that the cap went bad some how.. it only had very lil corrosion on the interior posts..

Hello and THANKS to ALL for helping... I replaced the Rotor and Cap as well as the plugs and the problem is gone back to running perfect again...

Wouldn't hurt to seal that distributor cap. I take some small weed eater line and slice it in half. It fits perfectly over the bottom housing of the distributor. I use some silicone where the bolts are on the cap. Never had moisture buildup again.
