Default 2000 Cavalier Tune Up?

The Cavalier runs a little rough when starting off, ok once going but not much power, and the check engine light is on.

1. any way to check the code from the check engine light without going to the dealer?
2. Is the spark plug replacement pretty strait forward?
3. Spark Plug wires, I read somewhere they were prone to breaking.. Should I get new ones as well.?

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks

you can check the codes at auto zone or another store like that for free. i would do that before anything else.

I have a 2002 cavalier and much to my surprise it needed a cat converter at a little over 100,000 miles. Since your light is on and your power is a little sluggish starting off, this could be your main issue. Unfortunately they are not cheap and if you don't do the work yourself it will be even more expensive.
