Post cavalier 2.2 heads

I have a 2001 cavalier and the heads have been shaved 3 times. I just put them back on and seem to have a valve lash? problem. The car is runs bad when I tighten the rocker arms down. Is it possible to put a shim under the rocker arms to correct problem? If not, any suggestions where can I find smaller pushrods.

if the heads have been cut that many times, then you will need new push rods. why so many times..

grand daughter don't know what temp gauge means. I read somewhere that they make head gasket shims, was wondering if that may be a solution
