distributor hits manifold

when trying to time my carborated SB 327, i am not able to turn the distributor becasue part of the distributor (ive been told the vacuum advance) hits the Manifold runners? are there distributors with smaller vacuum advance?

generally the vacuum advance hitting manifold means that distributor is off 1 or 2 teeth, or possibly the wires are off one terminal. typically, in proper installs, the vacuum advance points somewhere in the direction of #6, maybe #8 cylinder. if you've had to turn the distributor more and more over time, could be time to replace it. also curious, is this a coil in cap distributor, or points style, or external mount coil?

how do I tell the type of distributor I have, will try to post picture in next day or two.

this is the HEI coil in cap style, otherwise your distributor will have only the plug wires coming out of it and be smaller

that is it and the chrome part is what is hitting the manifold and thank you for the help

I think maxxman is right, it must be off by 1 or 2 teeth causing you to rotate it too much to set the timing.
