Default Driving Without Oil

2003 Silverado 1500HD 4WD Crew Cab
I drove my truck about 800 miles between cities. About 1/2 hour (35 miles) from home my truck started making noise. It was 2:00 am on a Sunday morning so I kept going until I got home. I brought the truck in to a dealership the next day and found out the oil plug had been cross threaded at the last oil change and the oil had leaked out since.
How much dammage could have been done. I have driven over 2000 miles with the truck since (without any trouble) but am leery about towing a trailer this summer.

Welcome to the forum. You probably heard lifter noises but it couldn't have been totally dry. There should've been a warning in the I/P cluster when the oil level got too low but I guess you missed it. Was the oil pressure gauge reading low as well or did you miss it? Anyway, if it didn't make any noises now, I'd say you dodged a bullet.

Thanks for the reply.
The sensor light wasn't working, they fixed it at the same time as they fixed the drain plug. I'm not sure if it was the bulb or the sensor but now that I am thinking of it I will check the invoice when I get home.
