Here's what have to work with. Any help will be greatly appreciated! Trying to build a decent engine for my 71 C10.
I have an early 283 block bored .040 over.
I also have a few sets of heads...casting numbers as follows;
333882 / 3884520 / 14014416.
I have 2 cams, .435 lift and .405 lift...duration unknown.
Nothing is "roller", stock lifters and rockers.
I'm assuming the crankshaft is stock also.
Transmission wise, I have 3, a TH350, a TH400 and a 700R4.
Rear end is assumingly a stock 12bolt...gears unknown.

You have to decide what you want. Low rear end is high torque, higher gear ratio is probably what you want 3.73-1 is a good ratio rear end for speed and better gas mileage. A 283 is only going to give you so much. Even with high compression heads (which you won't get with a 283). Not to dissappoint, but you can only do so much with what you have. I'd also go with a manual transmission, since you have onlt automatic's I;d definatley go with the turbo 400.
