Fuel problem

I believe its a 2x4 converted to a 4x4...but anyways,

it has a 305 with the tbi system. nothing more than typical. the problem with it thou is that it uses more litres than it drives in miles. upon normal servicingand scoping it, i have yet to figure out the problem withany electrical issue. istripped the motor down to the block (but left thepistons in) and haveyet to see a mechanical failure. i checked the cam, visually inspected the valves, checked the valve springs for firmness (but i havent checked the lifters , but they didnt sound bad). did a whole lot of visual with other parts that i've removed. The pulleys all spun freely, but i should get a newwater pump.

i dont know what else to do but do a total re-build, but if i was to do that, i wouldrather then get a 350 or larger that would fit.what is the best wayto figure that out anyways, and the electrical issues that may occur if i go with a direct port efi system..and so on...?

anyways,as id ratherjust figure this out for now due to financial reasons, can anyone getideas out and i will check them out..?

thanks for the help
