Default metal in a salvage rear end

Hi All. I picked up a rear end from my local salvage yard to day and I opened the diff to inspect it. I found some flat metal pieces and some chewed up metal in the housing.. I inspected the gears they all look good. the diff rolls smooth. I removed the center pin and the spider gears they all look good... Does chevy put any kind of metal wedge in there from the factory to keep the diff from turning on the assembly line that breaks loose when forced? the fluid was clean. it is a 7.5" open diff from a 1998 isuzu homeboy. my truck is a 1994 s-10 4.3l z code with 202k on it....
what do you think?

Thanks in advance
David
