my first strong 383 build opinions please
Build plans:
4 bolt block .030 over
forged internally balanced crank
forged rods
forged pistons ( dome/ reverse dome /flat top)?
holley/barry grant 750 carb
1 3/4 inch headers
msd ignition
trick flow super 23 top end kit
2500 stall ?
My questions are about the trick flow top end kit or rather which kit I should go with to maintain decent street manors as I do not understand the cam duration/lobe speration in relevance to streetability. After reading this article I am pretty sold on the ability of the trick flow top end. The build was a 355ci with the 445 hp rated kit, which produced 506 hp @6100 and 463 ft lbs @5000. There are kits available that are rated at 465, 490, and 500 hp. Can I really expect that much more out of the higher hp rated kits? And what would I be sacraficing for that extra power assuming the higher rated kits would produce that much more? I also realize there will be a gain with a 383 cubes vs the 355 closer to 540 hp assuming I can get the engine tuned as well as the pros. The kits are available on summit if you care to educate me on the differences in the cams I would appreciate it.
