Default please help

I have a Chevy1500 v8 z71 and it has started sputtering. When it does the tack jumps up and sometimes down. It has died twice in two weeks. I had to put a fuel pump in about 2 mouths ago and was hoping someone could give me an idea how to fix it.

Hi John42069,

Welcome to the Chevy Forums.

MAF and EGR come to mind as possibilities, but if you can, you should check the OBD to see if it's throwing a code.

BTW, what's the year and the mileage?

Unless you replaced the fuel pump with a Delco unit,it doesn't really matter much how long ago you replaced it.I have seen Airco pumps fail in that same time period as well as all the other cheap brands. You need to check the fuel pressure again.Btw-the guarantee you get with the cheaper pumps just means you get to drop the tank more often to do the work all over again.Along with any pump replacement you need to replace the fuel filter too.True enough a EGR valve held open with carbon would give you a rough idle and may stall out.If you take that off, clean the carbon out of it,then replace the gasket with a screened gasket for the help section in your local parts store.

Check to see if you have any vacuum leaks by spraying the vacuum lines with carb cleaner, then the intake on both sides, then the base of the injection system.

To check to see if it is a fuel issue, once it stalls out, shoot it with starting fluid and if it runs until it runs out of the starting fluid, then it is a fuel issue.

Make sure you check for spark and the color of that spark.Should be blue.Does it act up more when it is wet outside??.Take the cap off on the dizzy and check for carbon streaks and look closely at the rotor.Run it after dark and look for sparks coming off the spark plug wires. The coils on these are known to die a slow death and sometimes will work and other times don't.

Let us know how you are doing with this with updates and I will check back from time to time.
