Q-Jet jetting and metering rods for 350crank hp SBC 302?
I have a 302 I built with a used 3" crank and '89 'Vette 350 that wrecked its 3.48" crank. It has 10088113 heads, a cam with 220* duration at 5 thou and .5" of valve lift, valve train upgrades allowing me to rev it to 6,500 rpm, Chinese knockoff high rise with q-jet adapter, and I'll be running cutouts. This is going in a '77 Camaro that had a 305 and Q-jet. I do not want to buy a new carb or swap to efi. This is a budget fun build to make a highish revving 300 wheel F body.
The carb the car came with with has H hanger, 64 jets, 39B primaries, and DP(0.0686 s) secondaries. I called summit and the reproduction Q-jets they sold a while ago had a I hanger, 72 jets, 52 primaries, and CE(0.0410 M) secondaries.
Looking at those numbers, and knowing that aftermarket carbs tend to run rich off the shelf on mild builds, I'm thinking I can put the CE metering rods and 72 jets in my carb and stick with my stock hanger and primaries. I feel that will be the cheapest way to a reasonable baseline.
What combos have worked for other people?
