Default Timing Trouble

Okay so this crap is so confusing. The motor is still mounted in place, I have the vaulve cover off exposing the two camshafts. At first this chain was really loose, once I romoved the camshafts and realigned the chain it was so tight the camshaft won't fit back into place. I'm at a loss can anybody help?

What exactly are you working on? And if I read correctly the engine has twin overhead camshafts?
