9 times out of 10 it is the signal/hazard switch that goes bad. I have replaced several before and it solves the problem. you will need a special tool to remove the steering wheel. almost imposible without it
Thanx so much for replying I am trying to be the independent woman but its hard Remove the whole steering wheel or just the front piece? In the book it says something about the front cover of the wheel, is that what you are talking about? Thanks again for the advice.
I think the hazard switch also. But I thought that it was on the dash on those cars. Just went out and looked at moms car and it is on the dash on the right of the steering wheel. Replace that or push it repeatedly and sometimes they will start to work. I have also seen the multifunction switch go bad and you would have to pull the wheel to replace it. JHH
There was a recall for the Malibu through to the 02 model year for the hazard switch. The symptom was intermittant or no hazard / turn flashers now whether or not this affects the Impala is not certain.
I don't believe the flasher circiut is built into the hazard switch rather the wiring for the turn and hazards are at a common point to the hazard switch circiut board and go on to the flasher unit.
