Default Temp Gauge

I have just purchased a 2003 Impala with a 3.8 engine . I am curious as to where the normal temp should read on the gauge. Mine sits at the 1/4 mark. The only numbers on the gauge are at the bottom and the top, nowhere else. It would seem to me that at 1/4, the temp would be 75 C, if the graduations are all equal and this seems a little low to me, so I thought I should ask. Thank you.

Sorry, this was before my time here. You're probably concerned that the needle doesn't really move from that position once warmed up. Somewhere along the line they decided to make the PCM stick the needle there as long as the coolant temperature is within the acceptable range, i.e., convert it into a dumb coolant temperature gauge, if you will.
