5) While holding the door lock switch in the unlock position, insert and remove the ignition key twice. DO NOT ROTATE THE KEY.. JUST SLIDE IT IN AND BACK OUT.

7) Release the door lock switch. You will hear 3 chimes indicating the transmitter

8) Press and hold the lock and unlock buttons on the keyless entry remote at the same time (one remote) for 12 seconds. You will hear two chimes. This indicates the
transmitter has been programmed.
9) Repeat step 8 for all additional transmitters to be programmed
10) Exit programming by removing the key from the ignition cylinder
Thank you for your post.

This worked on my 1999 Lumina, too, with a couple differences. I had to re-program after a car battery replacement and the key fob battery replacement.
1. I had to repeat the whole process a couple times, maybe faster the 2nd time, idk.
2. I never heard any chimes, not the 3-chime sequence or the 2-chime sequence, and I was listening very carefully in a quiet garage.

I have a 2006 Impala. "Assuming" it works the same, here is the info in the handbook that's supposed to be in the glove box. I "assume" you have a driver information center like mine has. If so, there are four buttons in a vertical row to the right. The second button down is the Vehicle information button. Keep pressing the button until you get to the remote key display and then you push to get the "Press (check mark) to relearn remote key". Then you press the key with a check mark that is the reset key until you get Remote key learning active. Now press the door lock and unlock buttons simultaneously on the fob for 15 seconds until a chime will sound. Repeat for each fob. Mine won't go into learning active and I'm waiting for someone to tell me why. Good luck. Please check your owners manual in case your car is different.

Best answr is to look in your owners manual. Different models and years do differently, but the cars owners manual has the instructions.

I mentioned this in another post, but I'll put it here if it helps. When I couldn't get it to go into program mode, I disconnected the negative lead of the battery and let it sit for awhile. Then I reconnected it and was able to get into program and the fobs now work. Just remember that you have to reprogram all your choices because this puts it back into the default factory settings which you may not like. You also lose your favorite stations on the radio. Big deal; I'm 66 and hate most of the music nowadays anyway. Give me NPR!
