2000 malibu and two codes
This morning when taking my daughter to school my car would not accelerate and idled roughly and the check engine light came on. Took the car to AutoZone, which is across the street from my house, and had the code(s) checked. Two codes popped out: p0300 (cylinder misfiring) and p0401 (EGR system fault).
After googling the codes, I am flummoxed as to what to get fixed. I can change the plugs and wires, but I have no idea what the EGR is.
Can anyone help me understand what to look for?

Would not let me edit main post, but this is an update and most likely fixed my problem (I hope)
My sons friend came over and he is learning auto repair and I picked his brain. He looked under the hood and noticed an obvious problem, something chewed through 2 plug wires and were working on a third. So my engine was only firing 4 out of the 6 cylinders. We replaced the wires and plugs, since we were there anyway, and the car idles smoothly and accelerates like it did yesterday.
Will have the codes cleared and do normal driving again.
