2005 Maxx LS steering clunk
Before buying this Maxx with 93,000 miles I researched them and found the intermediate shaft to be an issue. Mine clunks but not a sbad as others I test drove. How hard is it to grease the shaft or does it need to go to a shop? It also feels like the front clunks with suspension movement which also feels like its in the steering. This intermediate shaft could cause that due to it moving with suspension cycling right?

Found the problem. I greased the intermediate shaft with some Amsoil Series 2000 grease I had. Noise cut in half. Continued checking and found driver's side balljoint was extremely bad. Since it looks like you can't put new balljoints in them I took out the lower control arm. Local junkyard shows one on hand from an '09 Malibu. Napa website shows they both use same lower control arm part number. A project for tomorrow...my birthday.
