Whining sound when driving turning sometimes
Hi, 2013 Malibu. Car sometimes drives fine for many miles before making sounds causing it to be difficult for Chevy dealer to diagnose.
But here’s the issue: driving or turning wheel at any speed makes whining noise that’s quite loud. When it does this, and I stop the car it stinks like burning rubber or maybe something electrical. if I break while driving the noise stops completely and only starts up again when I accelerate. I did some research and am thinking maybe the power steering or transmission. What do you guys think? |
Power steering.

not familiar with this model but could it be a bad belt or bad belt tensioner? the rubber smell might be the belt

Power steering pump is the whining sound. Most likely smelling burnt oil. Belt could also be slipping, another reason for smell.

I recorded this whine on my 2015 Malibu. It happens only occasionally when I stop the engine. Haven't found a solution. Does yours sound like this?
