Hi,
I have problem with my 93 3.1L engine...
when I drive on the hwy, it's fine, but when I take my foot off the gas, it doesn't idle down, and will ru at 45 MPH with my foot off the gas...
any ideas?
Thanks

does it do this in any other speeds? how do you finially get it to slow down?
i would say with the car off pop the hood. at the throttle body move it by hand full open and let go. see if it closes instantly.
also check while you open it if it feels smooth.
maybe cable?
next thing could be tps?

I'm only going by what my mechanic told me - some mechanic.
He thinks it's a vacuum leak somewhere. I haven't looked at the car, or heard it, drove it, etc...
he is going to pull the plenum and check/replace all the plastic lines there with new rubber ones, and also change the MAF sensor, even though it's brand new...
The history is that I had him do a blown head gasket, and I ended up getting a good deal on a set of remaned heads, so he did both sides, new gaskets everywhere, including intake... got new rubber seals for the bolts on the plenum, engine runs great now I guess, minus this idling problem... not sure if the cable is binding or not, easy enough to check.
He told me that the TPS was working fine when he tested it, but who knows now... I don't trust him anymore really to be honest. everytime he calls me, it costs more money...
If he can't fix it, am I still required to pay him? he has my car, and I have his money... he's had the car now for 4 months.
are there any notorious idleing problems with this 3.1? - it was of course, perfect before it started to overheat due to the HG - now it doesn't overheat anymore, but it's driving me nuts....
Thanks

i know the vacume lines can break (i broke my friends when i did their intake gasket) didnt have much room to move around.
if he broke it i would assume they would fix it for u (its only vacume lines)
its like a can of worms when u have someoen else work on your car.
there is a bleeder valve on the upper rad hose near the thermostat.
i would run the car use a screwdriver and open slowly to let out air.
I had my car heater on and waited until the radiator fans kicked on .
then opened .
mine had alot of air in the water which would give:
over heat or COLD reading on temp gauge
the throttle body has water running thru it that helps with it run.
try bleeding the water see if that helps first. its free and easy

Hi All,
ok, was wondering if I can link to a video showing how the engine is running on my 93 Chevy 3.1, and maybe someone here can give me some advice... I'm out $700+ from these people, and the car doesn't idle correctly.
I guess I don't feel too bad, since I would have had to pay that anyways for the labor on what they did do, but it's bitter, since the car don't run right...
anyways, if I can post a link to a youtube video/audio - as they say, a picture is worth 1000 words, and video 100000
Thanks
