Default Engine surges while driving

I have a new problem going on here with the Monte. It's a 1995 3.1L V6. While cruising at around 50-55 MPH and a steady accel, the engine will surge. It almost feels like the transmission is slipping. I had the transmission diagnosed and service at the local Aamco, and everything checked out. I replaced the EGR, as well as some of the hoses they had deteriorated. I checked the spark plugs and wires, and everything is good on that end.

The surges really only occur on a hard take off, and on a steady 55mph accel up an incline. Usually, the tach is sitting around 2000 rpm when it occurs. The needle doesn't move. Also, when it surges, a slight puffing noise can be heard. It almost feels like it could be a misfire, but I'm not sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.
