Default Timing issue

Hey guys. My name is Steve. I'm from British Columbia Canada. I have a 84 toyota with a 350 in it. I recently changed the heads and cam and now it won't run decent unless it's 40 degs advanced. It is a 79ish 4 bolt main block. Bored .30 over with flat tops. Mild cam with gasket ported 624 heads and cloys gear drive timing set. I have had the front of the engine apart twice to make sure the cam and crank are timed properly. I have moved the dizzy both ways and nothing. It only runs with the light flashing at 12:00 instead of at 2:30. If I try to bring it back to 2:30 it won't idle and it produced lots of heat. Any ideas??.

Welcome to the forum.

It sounds like the distributor may have been installed one tooth off.
