1990 Chevy/GMC van 5.7L, intermittent starting problem
Hi everyone, brand new here, posting this for my dad.
He has a 1990 Chevy/GMC full size van with a 5.7L that has been having problems lately. Getting close to stumped on diagnosing, figured I'd get online to bounce it off some knowledgeable people.
The van has an intermittent starting problem, cranks hard but won't start. Letting it sit for several minutes and trying again usually gets it going. Sometimes he has to shoot it with starter fluid to get it fired up.
It has also died on him a few times while driving. Pulled over, let it sit, tried starting, fires right up and he drives it home with little or no problem. When it runs, it runs fine and idles smooth.
He's replaced the fuel pump, pickup screen, and line filter. He thinks it might be the fuel pressure regulator going out.
Anyone have any ideas of what else might be the problem? He's just about stumped otherwise.
Thanks in advance for help and suggestions.
